Install Docker on Ubuntu 22.04

This small guide allow you to install Docker and Docker compose on a Ubunt 22.04 Droplet

First remove all previous installations

apt-get remove docker docker-engine docker.io containerd runc

Set up the repository

Update the apt package index and install packages to allow apt to use a repository over HTTPS:

apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ca-certificates curl gnupg lsb-release

Add Docker’s official GPG key:

mkdir -p /etc/apt/keyrings
curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu/gpg | sudo gpg --dearmor -o /etc/apt/keyrings/docker.gpg

Use the following command to set up the repository:

echo "deb [arch=$(dpkg --print-architecture) signed-by=/etc/apt/keyrings/docker.gpg] https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu $(lsb_release -cs) stable" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/docker.list > /dev/null

Install Docker Engine

apt-get update
apt-get install docker-ce docker-ce-cli containerd.io docker-compose-plugin
systemctl enable --now docker

Install Docker Compose

curl -L "https://github.com/docker/compose/releases/download/1.29.2/docker-compose-$(uname -s)-$(uname -m)" -o /usr/local/bin/docker-compose &> /dev/null
chmod +x /usr/local/bin/docker-compose
ln -s /usr/local/bin/docker-compose /usr/bin/docker-compose
